Judge William Sullivan of Massachusetts declared a mistrial – Friday September 4, 2026, in the first-degree murder case against Lindsay Clancy: After jurors said they could not agree on whether Lindsay Clancy was criminally responsible for killing her three children in 2023.
Judge William Sullivan ended the five-week trial after the jury of nine women, and three men – Spent more than 35 hours deliberating over the course of seven days, sending a note that read, “It is with a heavy heart that we report we are unable to come to a unanimous decision, and will not be able to.”

Lindsay Clancy’s defense attorney Kevin Reddington argued: Lindsay Clancy was in the middle of postpartum psychosis: Causing her mental capacity not criminally responsible. Prosecutors are persistent that Lindsay Clancy acted with intent- After sending her husband out of the house to pick up medicine, and dinner.
Postpartum psychosis is rare mental diagnosis – Affecting 1 to 2 women per 1,000 births in the United States: According to a 2024 article by Susan Benjamin Feingold and Barry M. Lewis in Archives of Women’s Mental Health, a peer-reviewed journal available through academic research databases used by university libraries.
Kevin Reddington spoke to reporters outside Plymouth Superior Court after Judge William Sullivan declared the mistrial.
“It was 11-1 for an acquittal, and one individual who recognized that there was reasonable doubt and refused to apply the law,” Kevin Reddington said.
“They know they were robbed by one man, for whatever his agenda was, who stole seven weeks of the life of these other jurors that were so attentive, so beautiful, so wonderful,” Kevin Reddington said.
Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz said he would not announce Friday whether his office will retry the case, seek a plea or drop the charges. A status hearing is set for September 29, 2026. Judge William Sullivan said a new trial – If ordered, could begin this fall. Timothy Cruz said: The prosecution “was and has always been about getting justice for those three little babies” and that first-degree murder charges were “warranted and appropriate.”
Lindsay Clancy will remain at Tewksbury State Hospital – where she has been held since 2023, Kevin Reddington said – The jump left her paralyzed from the waist down: Appearing at court in a wheelchair.
The Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court denied a last-hour defense request Friday September 4, 2026, to pause the mistrial, and question the holdout juror. Patrick Clancy, the children’s father: Stated through a statement that another trial would be “extraordinarily painful.”
A mistrial is neither a conviction, nor an acquittal – As of now, the murder charges remain.
